Our story
We built Casebriar because the law in a complaint deserves checking, not guessing.
Tenant complaints have changed. They increasingly arrive with legal claims attached, some copied from forums, some from AI tools, some exactly right. The people answering them are letting agents, not lawyers, and they're doing it between viewings.
The problem we set out to solve
A tenant writes in. The boiler's broken, there's damp, and they've read that you're legally required to cut the rent. Someone at the agency now has to answer three different questions, in writing, knowing the reply might be read by a redress scheme later.
The options weren't good. Look the law up yourself, and hope the page you found is current and applies in England. Send it to a solicitor, and wait. Or paste it into a chatbot, which will write a confident reply that may quote a section that doesn't say what it claims.
We thought there should be a way to answer a complaint properly that doesn't take all afternoon: every issue picked out, every legal claim checked against the legislation itself, and the decision left with the person who knows the property.
What it must never do
Casebriar is built around five rules:
- Never state the law from memory. If Casebriar says a provision applies, it has fetched that provision from legislation.gov.uk and checked the words.
- Never tell a tenant they're wrong. If a claim can't be supported, it's marked "not established", and the reply doesn't repeat it as fact either way.
- Never decide for you. Nothing is drafted until you've chosen an outcome for every issue.
- Never keep complaints longer than it needs to. Content is erased on a schedule your agency sets.
- Never pretend to cover more than it does. England only, because housing law differs in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Where we are now
Casebriar is available now to letting agents and property managers in England. While it's new, we're also running a free pilot with a small number of agencies: we're building it with the people who use it, and what they tell us, about what's confusing, missing or slow, decides what we build next.
What we believe
Three principles behind every feature.
Checked, not generated
Legal statements come from the legislation, with the source linked. Writing is the easy part; being right is the point.
People decide
Casebriar sets out the issues, the law and the evidence. The judgement, and the reply, stay with you.
Less data, for less time
We ask for anonymised complaints during the pilot, keep only what's needed, and erase it on schedule.
The company
Who's behind Casebriar
Casebriar is built and run by Casebriar Ltd, an independent company registered in England (company number 17486554), with its registered office at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. We're small on purpose: when you email us, you reach the people who build the product.
Got a complaint waiting? Try Casebriar on that one.
Plans start at £15 a complaint, with no charge per user. Free pilot places are available while Casebriar is in early access.
